Cynthia Plockelman
- Born West Palm Beach, June 1938. Has lived most of her life in West Palm Beach.
- Education:
- Palm Beach High School, graduated June 1956.
- Florida State University, BA in Political Science, 1960
- Emory University, MA in Government, 1961
- Employed 40 years at Central and Southern Florida
Flood Control District/South Florida Water Management District,
managing the District’s Reference Center, combination of archive and
library. Developed the Florida Environmental History Collection;
Retired June 2003.
- Currently full time environmental advocate. 2006:
Named “Environmental Champion” by J.D. MacArthur State Park, at
Naturescaping Festival. Awarded “GREEN PALMETTO” plaque for service
to the Florida Native Plant Society, in several capacities, May 2008, at
the FNPS Annual Conference in Bradenton, FL.
- Memberships: Junior League of the Palm Beaches,
for 40 years, as of 2007; represented this organization on the Florida
Health Planning Council, Region IX for many years, including as
President of Region IX. Florida Antiquarian Booksellers Assn, retired.
- Charter Member, Florida Native Plant Society;Government Policy Chair 1998-2006,
and Chapter Representative of Palm Beach County Chapter; President, Palm Beach County Chapter, 2002-2004
- Audubon Society of the Everglades (ASE), 1st
Vice President and Co-chair of Conservation Committee, currently.
Formerly 2nd Vice President and a Director at Large.
Represents ASE on the Everglades Coalition.
- Audubon of Florida, Board of Directors, 2007-2008,
and Co-chair: Everglades Regional Conservation Committee.
- Palm Beach County Green Task Force, appointed
2008-2009; served on Environment and Government committees.
- Interested in preserving our wildlife habitats for
future generations.
