The Visitor Center exhibits are finally under
construction. Our contractor, Southern Custom Exhibits
(Anniston, Alabama), began the process last month after
working out the final design details with Refuge staff
and representatives of the Friends and the Marshall
Foundation. We are hoping for installation in September
and a Gala Grand Opening in October.
There are two truly amazing exhibits that should attract
visitors from near and far. One is Night Sounds of the
Everglades. You enter a darkened circular chamber and
are surrounded by realistic visual images and the actual
sounds of insects, birds, frogs, gators, otters,
raccoons, wind, and rain – unique, eerie, and beautiful.
The other is a Virtual Airboat Tour of Loxahatchee. You
take a seat in a closed chamber in an airboat mock-up.
As it moves and vibrates the wind blows and the visuals
and narration make you feel and see the pristine
elegance of the refuge-close up and personal.
